Student Evangelist Training
This project is training 100 evangelists in 10 years to renew the ministry of Evangelism within the French-speaking world.
*Because of the current economic crisis, financing that was obtained last year was not continued but through the prayers and obedience of R2E's friends, an anonymous donor has financed the entire project.
After several years of prayer and discussion, the consensus among the majority of Evangelical leaders in France and French-speaking Europe is that one of the most timely and important needs in continuing to spread the Gospel in France is training the next generation of Christian leaders in the fields of evangelism and apologetics, leadership, and spiritual discipleship.
In 2004 and 2005, we surveyed the presidents of Bible Institutes in France and Switzerland, and staff workers in both GBU (Intervarsity France) and FEU (Foyer Evangelique Universitaire) to understand what their top priorities were in helping the Church to be more effective. In March of 2005, a list of conclusions of the National Consultation on Evangelization in Lyon, France was presented to the participants. Both the survey and the consultation’s conclusions were in agreement: they stressed the need to train a new generation of evangelists.
The vision for this training also has the full support and endorsement of the leading evangelical leaders in the National Council of French Evangelicals which represents over 80% of all Evangelical churches in France. The need for a new generation of trained Evangelists is clear.
R2E is a network of Students who have a gift for Evangelism and Leadership. France Evangile Communication is piloting the project, along with several key national organizations with the goal of raising 100 evangelists for the Francophone world in the next 10 years.
Each year, the committee that oversees R2E handpicks students from a list of applicants who have a gift for evangelism and leadership. During the following two years these students have a mentor who accompanies them individually as well as encourages regular communication and fellowship as a group. For each of the two years, the class meets for a long week-end (around November 11th) for a time of training and spiritual refreshment. I Timothy 4:12 serves as the model for the meetings, which are centered around evangelism, leadership, and spiritual disciplines. The weekend also allows students to share their vision of the ministry to which God is calling them, as well as the joys and difficulties they are encountering as they live as disciples of Christ. The team of leaders and evangelists who train them during this weekend are all leading actors in the French evangelical world who have a clear vision of leadership development as well as the ministry of evangelism and its place in the local church.
Each student promises to take part in R2E program for two school years, participating in the training weekend as well as attending the Forum des Evangelistes, which takes place each year in January in a European Francophone country (France, Belgium, and Switzerland). This Forum gives them the possibility to network with active evangelists as well as to discover current Evangelism projects taking place in different part of the Francophone world.
The students are responsible for financing their own travel expenses so that they can attend these two events. Those who are fluent in English will also have the possibility of participating in the European Evangelist Network which takes place each year in Hungry during the month of May, in order to broaden their vision for Europe.
The goal is to train 100 evangelists in the next 10 years through the program. Half will be involved in ministry (full-time or part-time), half will be involved in evangelism through their secular job in the market place (as engineers, veterinarians, professors, lawyers or political leaders).
Although the funding for 2009 has been met, if you still feel led to make a gift to this ministry, a full year of mentoring, training and events for each student costs $1,473.
